At the end of December, I'm going to be taking off for a month to Brazil (yes, you can hate me now). This bicycle samba that I noticed on Curitiba Cycle Chic is helping me count down the days until Reveillon in Copacabana.
I heard there was a huge Tuesday night bike ride (bikers by the thousands) in Rio, so if anyone out there has any idea how and where to join in, let me know!
This is by far the best. It reminded me of an ancient clip (70's'ish - Blk&Wht) of Frank Zappa playing a bike with Johnny Carson and his orchestra. But, this was much better....much. Excellent. I wonder what you could do with an electric bike (one with a motor & battery). Superb! More, please.
The tuesday ride does not exist anymore but to use samba bikes is easy and fun: Take a look at this video: http://transporteativo.org.br/videos/sambai.wmv
Kristin, at www.bicicletada.org you can find our critical mass events in each city they occur. If you need some help reading it or making contacts, let me know.
At this URL you can find a list of all (or almost all) night rides at São Paulo city: http://www.wde.com.br/bike/passeios.htm
If you are coming to São Paulo, send a message to bicicletada.sp@gmail.com (it can be in english if you don't know portuguese) and for sure somebody will show you the city in two wheels.

So Incredible...We will have your photos then from Brazil!!!
Yeah, I'll still post, but probably not on such a regular basis. Especially when I'm somewhere deep in the Amazon.

@Jose: Obrigado!
I also saw this: http://www.bicicletada.org/tiki-index.php which looks like a critical mass of sorts, but my portuguese is pretty bad.
P.S. is that you in the video? Looks like such an easy system! Can't wait to try it out!

Thanks, Willian! Looking forward to visiting your incredible country! Obrigado!
Anyone else have any tips for riding in Rio? A friend just told me that it's not advisable to ride at night. Comments?
